| Aventurine MineralogyAventurine is a form of Quartz, and is characterised by its translucency and the presence of platy mineral occlusions, often Mica, that give a shimmering effect, known as aventurescence. The most common colour of Aventurine is green, but it may also be orange, brown, yellow, blue or grey. A silvery-green or blue sheen is produced by Chrome-bearing Fuchsite (a variety of Muscovite Mica), whereas the orange and brownish colours are produced by Hematite or Goethite.
The name Aventurine derives from the Italian a ventura meaning by chance, in an allusion to the chance discovery of Aventurine glass, known as Goldstone at some point in the 18th century.
