Magnetite develops spirituality and brings a deep meditative experience. It offers protection and stability due to its grounding aspects. It enables temporary alignment of the chakras, meridians and physical and etheric bodies. It dispels grief, fear, anger and attachment. Magnetite balances the emotions and can attract a loving relationship into your life. It aids the treatment of bones, hair, skin, blood vessels and flesh dis-ease.

Photo shows Magnetite crystals on a matrix.

Magnetite has the chemical formula Fe3O4, Iron Oxide, and belongs to the mineral class of Oxides and Hydroxides, group Spinel.
It gets its name from its property of being a natural magnet. This phenomenon is caused by Magnetite having two different metal ions in two specific sites (Fe+2 and Fe +3), which causes a transfer of electrons between the different ions in a structured vector (path). This electric vector generates the magnetic field. So now, you know! Interestingly, its magnetism is stronger in massive formations rather than in crystal form.
Typically, Magnetite crystal habits are octahedrons, rarely rhombododecahedron and other isometric forms, and it is most commonly found as massive or granular. Occasionally, twinning of octahedrons under the Spinel law is exhibited. The colour is deep brown to black, lustre is metallic to dull and crystals are opaque. Cleavage is absent, fracture is conchoidal, hardness is 5.5 - 6.5 and the crystal system is isometric.
Minerals associated with Magnetite include Talc, Chlorite, Pyrite and Hematite. Notable locations include South Africa, Germany, Russia and widely in the USA.

Malachite Energies and Mineralogy

Malachite Energies and Mineralogy

Malachite aids recovery from illness. It is a powerful healing stone, and may be placed on the affected area to absorb illness, whether physical or emotional. It removes inhibitions, raises the spirits, simplifies problems and brings fresh optimism. Malachite is particularly good for rheumatism, asthma, menstrual problems, teeth and liver activity (detoxifying). It aids dreaming. Malachite is a very powerful stone. It digs deep and works fast. It identifies its goal and Works to achieve it in as shorter time as is possible. It is not concerned whether the time or pace suit the person. With this in mind, I would suggest that you work with Malachite sparingly and only when you are sure you are ready to move on. N.B Use Malachite with care and under no circumstances take it internally in any form due to its Copper content.

Photo shows a polished Malachite freeform.

Malachite has the chemistry Cu2(CO3)(OH)2, Copper Carbonate Hydroxide and is a member of the mineral class Carbonate. It is a significant Copper ore. It often displays fabulous, exotic bands of light and dark green, which form unique designs. The polished pieces really show off these amazing patterns, which are so distinctive that Malachite is probably one of the easiest minerals to recognise. The banding occurs due to subtle changes in the oxidation states of the surrounding pore waters. Crystalline Malachite is dark green only and no banding is present. Malachite is a named after the Greek word for the green herb, mallow.
Malachite often combines with other minerals including Azurite and Chrysocolla. It is found in many locations worldwide particularly the Congo, Namibia, Russia, Mexico, Australia, England and the USA.

Malachite Chrysocolla Healing Energies

Malachite Chrysocolla Healing Energies

Malachite Chrysocolla offers protection on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. It has the softer energies of Chrysocolla mixed with the powerful focussed ones of Malachite, making this a very potent stone. It is a gentle but strong detoxifier, particularly for the liver. It aids all forms of elimination.

It belongs to the mineral class Silicates, Subclass Sorosilicates, Group Vesuvianite. It forms as hydrothermal alteration of primary Manganese ore and is found in vugs and veins.

Typically, the crystals of Manganvesuvianite are translucent to opaque, small, dark maroon-red to black individual, prismatic, terminated crystals in groups and the crystal structure is tetragonal - dpyramidal. Fracture is subconchoidal, lustre is vitreous and hardness in the 6 - 7 range. Manganvesuvianite is named after its relationship to Vesuvianite and Manganese.

Marble Healing Energies and Mineralogy

Marble Healing Energies and Mineralogy

Marble enhances meditation and brings total recall of dreams. It helps to activate the unused portions of the mind and provokes feelings of compassion and caring. Marble lowers fevers and increases the body's ability to process calcium. Marble is associated with the astrological sign of Gemini.

Photo shows a black Marble pebbler.

Marble is a metamorphic rock resulting from the metamorphism of sedimentary carbonate rocks, either Limestone or Dolostone. The metamorphic process causes a complete recrystallization of the original rock into an interlocking mosaic of Calcite and/or Dolomite crystals. The temperatures and pressures necessary to form Marble usually destroy any fossils and sedimentary textures present in the original rock.
The characteristic swirls and veins of many coloured Marble varieties are usually due to various mineral impurities such as clay, silt, sand, iron oxides, or chert which were originally present as grains or layers in the limestone. Green coloration is often due to Serpentine resulting from originally high Magnesium Limestone or Dolostone with Silica impurities. These various impurities have been mobilized and recrystallized by the intense pressure and heat of the metamorphism.
The word Marble derives from the Greek marmaros, meaning shining stone. It is extensively used for sculpture, as a building material, and in many other applications.

Marcasite Healing Energies and Mineralogy

Marcasite is a very good grounding stone. It helps to bring fragmented and dis-organised thoughts into focus and clarity. It is beneficial for concentration, memory and completing practical tasks. Marcasite promotes feelings of confidence.

Marcasite has the chemistry FeS2, Iron Sulphide and belongs to the mineral class Sulphides and the Marcasite group. Marcasite is named from the Arabic word for Pyrite, with which it shares similar characteristics.
Marcasite is a polymorph of Pyrite, which means that it has the same chemistry as Pyrite but a different structure and therefore, different symmetry and crystal shapes. Marcasite may pseudomorph (an atom-by-atom replacement of one mineral's chemistry for another) other minerals including Pyrite, Gypsum and Fluorite. To add to the confusion, Marcasite may be pseudomorphed into Goethite.
Marcasite crystal habits include tabular, bladed or prismatic forms. In addition, a twinning effect produces spear shaped crystals and repeated twinning produces a cock's comb cluster, a trademark of Marcasite. Other habits include massive, botryoidal, stalactitic and nodular. The colour is a brassy yellow, sometimes with a greenish tint. Crystals are opaque, lustre is metallic, cleavage is poor in two directions and fracture is uneven. The crystal system is orthorhombic, fracture is uneven and hardness is 6 - 6.5. Sometimes a smell of sulphur is noticeable.
Minerals associated with Marcasite include Calcite, Dolomite, Quartz, Goethite, Fluorite, Pyrrhotite, Bornite, Chalcocite, Sphalerite, Pyrite, Galena and other sulphides.

Melikaria Healing Energies and Mineralogy

Melikaria Healing Energies and Mineralogy

Melikaria aids spiritual development and insight and combines this with ancient knowledge, bringing deep understanding of the Self in relation to the Universe. It brings emotional stability and inner peace. It encourages the transformation of ideas into action. Melikaria stimulates the metabolism and benefits the immune system. It enhances physical growth in children, as well as emotional development for all ages. It encourages healing of tissue and bone and is beneficial for the skin.

Photo shows natural Melikaria matrix.

Melikaria is a quartz cast made after the crack filling of a septerian nodule (or spherulite). Some solutions acting on septaria may remove the filings of the cracks, in which event the septaria fall apart, or may remove the material between the cracks, thus leaving a skeletal structure made up of the veins i.e. Melikaria.

Merlinite Energies and Mineralogy

Merlinite Energies and Mineralogy

Merlinite holds the whole knowledge of all those who have worked with nature and the elements in the past and combines this with cosmic information. This makes this stone very powerful! It may aid access to the Akashic records and communication with those in other dimensions, facilitate astral and time travel, provide links to past, present and future lives, and raise the body's vibration through insight and releasing of negative or unhelpful energies. If allowed to carry out its thorough work plan, Merlinite balances dualities such as internal and external worlds, yin and yang energies and earth and cosmic frequencies.

Photo shows a Merlinite tumblestone.

Merlinite (Psilomelane) has no fixed chemistry, however Ba(Mn+2)(Mn+4)8O16(OH)4 Barium Manganese Oxide Hydroxide is used often. It belongs to the mineral group Oxides and Hydroxides and is a mixture of several minerals, primarily Romanechite. It is still an important ore of manganese, which is an essential ingredient in steel and other alloys.
Merlinite is often banded with grey Pyrolusite, forming alternate layers of metallic grey and sub-metallic black material with colours ranging from iron-black to bluish black to steel grey. Although these two minerals are similar, both producing tufts of hair-like aggregates, the sub-metallic lustre of Merlinite distinguishes it from Pyrolusite. Other associated minerals include Barite, Hematite, Quartz, and other manganese oxide minerals. Crystal habits include massive, fibrous, botryoidal, columnar, stalactitic, concretionary, powdery and earthy. Crystals are opaque.

Meteorite Healing Energies and Mineralogy

Meteorite Healing Energies and Mineralogy

Meteorites aid communition with distant world, whist retaining a connection with the earth. They enhance meditation and feelings og tranquility.

Photo shows a round Meteorite nodule.

A meteor is a bright streak of light in the sky that is produced as matter in the solar system falls into Earth's atmosphere. This temporary incandescence is a result of atmospheric friction, which typically occurs at heights of 80-110 kilometres (50-68 miles) above Earth's surface.
A meteoroid is matter revolving around the sun or any object in interplanetary space that is too small to be called an asteroid or a comet (even smaller particles are called micrometeoroids or cosmic dust grains). A meteorite is a meteoroid that reaches the surface of the Earth without being completely vaporised.
The average meteoroid enters the earth's atmosphere at between 10 and 70 km/sec! However, all but the very largest decelerate rapidly to a few hundred km/hour due to atmospheric friction and hit the earth with very little impact. Meteorites weighing hundreds of tons are the ones that form craters.
The name meteor is derived form the Greek meteoron, meaning phenomenon in the sky.
