Salrose (Sphaerocobaltite) is a Cobalt Carbonate, in the mineral class of Carbonates and the sub-class of Calcites. It is renouned for its beautiful colour, which is the result of the presence of the Cobalt. Unlike many pink Calcites, true Sphaerocobaltite has a small, but significant amount of Calcite and the colouring effect of the Cobalt is amplified. This mineral is found as crusts and small crystals in many cobalt ore locations around the world and is often associated with Malachite.

Gypsum has the chemistry CaSO4-2(H2O), Hydrated Calcium Sulphate and belongs to the mineral class Sulphates. It is a major rock-forming mineral that is common in sedimentary environments. Gypsum produces massive beds, which form easily from saline water and this may cause it to have inclusions of other minerals or trapped bubbles of air and water.
There are several well-known variety names for Gypsum. Selenite is transparent, colourless to white and occasionally green or orange. Its distinctive pearly lustre led the Greeks to name it moonlight, an allusion to its lustre. A compact fibrous aggregate variety is named Satin Spar and unsurprisingly it has a satin lustre that shows the light moving up and down it. Alabaster is a fine-grained massive material that has been used for fine carvings since the earliest times.
Crystal habits include tabular, bladed with a slanted parallelogram outline, massive, crusty, granular and fibrous. Notably there are two types of twinning, which are known as swallowtail and fishtail. Commonly, Gypsum is white, colourless or grey but may be shades of red, brown, green and yellow. Crystals are transparent to translucent, lustre is vitreous to pearly especially on cleavage surfaces and the crystal system is monoclinic.
Minerals associated with Gypsum include Halite, Calcite, Sulphur, Pyrite and Borax. Gypsum is found world wide, with notable occurrences in Mexico, Sicily and Colorado, USA. Gypsum is named after the Greek gyps, meaning burned mineral. Some uses for Gypsum include plaster, plasterboard, fertilizer, paint filler and ornamental stone.

Septarian Healing Energies and Minerology

Septarian Healing Energies and Minerology

Septarian speeds up spiritual development. It brings emotional stability, consistency and self-trust. It increases the ability to overcome challenges. It encourages the transformation of ideas into action by amplifying energy, mastery and success. Calcite stimulates the metabolism and benefits the immune system and the heart. It enhances growth in children. It alleviates skin and intestinal conditions and encourages healing of tissue and bone. In addition, Septarian promotes assertiveness linked with a flexible attitude. It aids decision-making by providing insight and the acceptance of differing solutions.

Photo shows a Septarian tumblestone.

Septarians were formed approximately 110million years ago. Decomposing sea (shell) life, killed by volcanic actions had a chemical attraction for the sediment around them, forming mud balls. Tide and wave action rolled the balls around, increasing the size of many of them. As the ocean retreated, the balls were left to dry and crack. Because of their Benonite content they also shrank, trapping the cracks inside. Then they were covered with sediment. The ocean returned depositing shell life above the balls. As this decomposed Calcite from the shells was carried down into the cracks, Calcite crystals were formed. A thin wall of Calcite was transformed into Aragonite, dividing the clay exteriors from the centres. They fluoresce under black or ultra-violet lamps.

Serpentine Healing Energies and Mineralogy

Serpentine Healing Energies and Mineralogy

Serpentine promotes spiritual growth, aids meditation and facilitates connection to angelic realms. It aligns the chakras and aids past life recall. It balances the intellect and emotions. It is an excellent detoxifier, aids pain relief, particularly menstrual and muscular. It benefits those with diabetes, and strengthens the skeletal structure.

Photo shows a Serpentine Buddha.

Serpentine has the chemistry (Mg,Fe)3Si2O5(OH)4, Magnesium Iron Silicate Hydroxide, is a member of the mineral class Silicates, subclass Phyllosilicates, group Kalolinite-Serpentine.
Serpentine is a major rock forming mineral and is found as a constituent in many metamorphic and weather igneous rocks, often being recognised by a green colour. It is a generic term for several members of a polymorphic group; that is minerals which have essentially the same chemistry but different structures. They are

Antigorite; (Mg,Fe)3Si2O5(OH)4 (monoclinic)
Clinochrysotile; Mg3Si2O5(OH)4 (monoclinic)
Lizardite; Mg3Si2O5(OH)4 (trigonal and hexagonal)
Orthochrysotile; Mg3Si2O5(OH)4 (orthorhombic)
Parachrysotile; (Mg,Fe)3Si2O5(OH)4 (orthorhombic)

These minerals are difficult to distinguish from each other by sight, however Chrysotile minerals usually form Asbestos, while Antigorite and Lizardite form cryptocrystalline masses with occasional lamellar or micaceous formations. Serpentine's structure is composed of layers of Silicate tetrahedrons linked into sheets with layers of Mg(OH)2 between them. These layers are found in the mineral Brucite and are named after it. The Brucite layers do not stack perfectly and therefore both the Silicate and Brucite layers do not form true, giving rise instead to multiple polymorphs. In the Asbestos varieties of Serpentine the Brucite and Silicate layers bend into tubes that produce the fibres.

Serpentine is sometimes confused with Jade particularly when it is made into carvings. Care should be taken with Asbestos Serpentines, Chrysotile and are best placed in closed containers. Chrysotile, which has a gold colour sometimes, is named from the Greek for golden fibres. The name Serpentine is from the Greek ophites, meaning of a serpent.
Serpentine crystal habits include masses and fibrous; crystals do not reach large sizes. Crystals are translucent and masses are opaque and the lustre is greasy, waxy or silky. Cleavage is dependant on variety, with Chrysotiles having none, and Lizardite and Antigorite being good in one direction. Fracture is variable also, Chrysotiles being splintery and Antigorite and Lizardite being conchoidal. Hardness is in the range 3 - 4.5 and specific gravity is 2.2 - 2.6. Serpentine is green, yellow, golden, brown, or black. See above for individual crystal systems by variety.
Minerals associated with Serpentine include Chromite, Olivine, Garnets, Calcite, Biotite and Talc. Notable locations include Italy, Russia, Rhodesia, Switzerland, USA and Canada.

Shiva Lingham Stone Healing Energies

Shiva Lingham Stone Healing Energies

Shiva Lingham Stone is found on the banks of the sacred Narmada River in Onkar Mandhata, one of India's seven holy sites. It is collected and cleaned by the few who know how to; the knowledge is passed down the generations. In Tantra, the shape embodies masculine energy, dynamic expression and knowledge. The markings, named Yoni, depict the feminine energy, wisdom and intuition. The Tantric Lingham unifies the dualistic (male/female) world into harmonious balance. Also, it balances both masculine and feminine sides of the individual.
The Shiva Lingham Stone is beneficial in overcoming the effects of a poorly nurtured childhood by supporting working through and resolving past hurts (place on the heart chakra initially and when you are ready move the stone to the sacral chakra). For this work the Shiva Lingham may be used in conjunction with Chrysoprase. It increases fertility and encourages and supports mother and child bonding (possibly helping fathers bond also).
