Vanadinite has the chemistry Pb5(VO4)3Cl, Lead Chlorovanadate and belongs to the mineral class Phosphates, Apatite group. Vanadinite shares the same structure with Apatite and is part of a chemical series with two other minerals, namely Pyromorphite (Pb5(PO4)3Cl) and Mimetite (Pb5(AsO4)3Cl). Vanadinite is usually a reddish colour, which both the other members of this series and the Apatite group are not normally.
The crystal habit associated with Vanadinite are the short hexagonal prisms that are wider than they are long, and terminated by a pinacoid, or flat basal face. Crystal habits include as rounded masses and crusts.
Vanadinite crystals are transparent to translucent, the lustre is vitreous to adamantine and the crystal system is hexagonal. The classic colouring of Vanadinite is bright, red to orange-brown and rarely grey. Minerals associated with Vanadinite include Wulfenite, Limonite, Barite and Galena. Main locations include Arizona, USA, Mexico, Tsumeb in Namibia, Zambia and South Africa.

Vivianite has the chemistry: Fe3(PO4)2-(H2O)8, Hydrated Iron Phosphate and is a member of the mineral class Phosphates, Vivianite group. It is named after J. G. Vivian, an English mineralogist. Some pieces are found inside fossilised shells or attached to fossilised bones.
Crystal habits associated with Vivianite include radiating clusters of prismatic, acicular, or fibrous crystals, concretionary rounded masses and earthy clay-like dull masses. Vivianite crystals are transparent to translucent, colour is blue, green, dark green and colourless and the lustre is vitreous. The crystal system is monoclinic. The colour darkens upon exposure to light, due to the oxidation of the iron from +2 to +3.
